He works with oils, watercolour and pastel. Where practical, he paints on site and is equally excited by and interested in urban and rural landscape, seascape, portraiture and still life. He has had two sketch books published (Boolarong), both dealing with the Central Queensland gemfields.
He is a member of the Royal Queensland Art Society. Since 1980, Glen has held more than 30 solo exhibitions. The most recent have been in 2013, and 2015, both at the attractive new gallery owned by R.Q.A.S. on Petrie Tce. , Brisbane.
Glen continues to win prizes in various art contests. In 1990, his portrait of his wife ‘Verna’, was one of the thirty finalists for the Doug Moran contest. Portraiture is an all engaging aspect of his life as an artist, and he loves the encounter of painting with a person sitting in front of him as the subject. The dignity of the human head is an all engaging fascination.
His approach to all subjects, be it flowers, portraits, seascapes, etc.is straight forward. If the subject is interesting, beautiful, or visually engaging in some way, then those aspects are what he tries to convey in his paintings. It’s a direct, no – nonsense approach, in which there is no need to add “character. “
